Coordination

:: 2018 ::

The almighty Google defines coordination:

the organization of the different elements of a complex body or activity so as to enable them to work together effectively.

To break that down in regards to retreats:

organization = what I do

different elements = budget, registration, & communication

complex body = retreat container

work together effectively = retreat magic aka the teachings

Creating my definition of Retreat Coordination:

I organize the retreat budget, registration, & communications so teachers can teach.

I’ve been known to coordinate other things besides retreats & since August I’ve been coordinating volunteers for the Portland Winter Light Festival.

The Festival this year was a smashing success. We had over 140,000 attendees & 191 volunteers show up for their shifts!

I learned so much. I designed tons of fancy spreadsheets. I made new friends & I strengthened friendships decades-in-the-making.

I also learned that volunteer coordination completely & utterly takes over your life the 2 months leading up to the festival.

I’m in the debrief phase now, basking in the glory, & compiling all the notes for next year.

For the past 14 months, I’ve had the extreme pleasure of coordinating Koans of the Body, Koans of Our Lives: A 4-Day Retreat with Suniti Dernovsek & Caverly Morgan.

For this retreat, I:

  • Customized the Budget
  • Designed the Registration Process
  • Managed all Communications
  • Organized the Logistics
  • Handled the Cash Flow

As the On-Site Liaison, I’ll have the honor of witnessing the magic we’ve created.

I’m beyond excited to spend time at the magical Trout Lake Abbey.
